He was born in the village of Ballya, near Kita in the region of Kaye, about 200 kilometres from the capital, Bamako. Like his parents and grandparents, who were also musicians, his musical and ethnic roots are Malinké (or Mandinge).
Sissoko's music is representative of transnational culture where identity is derived from both time and space. His music is captivating as it is rich with tradition which can only be derived from roots sunk deep in the soil, from those who till the earth, from hunters and from women who bear their children with the wind and the stars. His music touches the souls of those who turn to music to find peace and serenity in a connected, but cacophonic, chaotic world.

The Real McCoy is inspired by the true-life story of black inventor Elijah McCoy. Born in Canada to runaway slaves, McCoy became a leading expert in the field of thermo-dynamics. McCoy invented a device that revolutionized steam engine travel, only to see it sold worldwide with the marketer’s proviso that his race be concealed. The Real McCoy is a passionate and touching story about the struggle.
