JK Black Star Tutoring
ABOUT JK BLACK STAR TUTORING SERVICE
Jaku Konbit's Black Star Tutoring is a new after school initiative to provide tutoring services to children and youth of African and Caribbean descent, especially newcomers and immigrants who are experiencing difficulties academically. The program is also available to students who are interested in advancing their knowledge and understanding of a particular field or to "reach ahead". Our aim is to empower African-Canadian children and youth with added and specialized knowledge of various core subjects, namely Math, Science, English and French, with the assistance of tutors. The program is affordable as it costs $20/hour.
 MISSION
Our goal is to be Ottawa’s number one provider in-home tutoring service, by providing high-quality, personalized tutoring, that is both effective and affordable. We intend to excite our students about the learning process; instilling in them a sense of competence and confidence to improve their grades, self-confidence and interest in learning.
VISION
Our tutoring program will also be affiliated with the Jaku Konbit’s Academy, an educational and cultural program for Black-Canadian children and youth which is supported by the Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization (OCISO). Although the target population for our mobile tutoring service will be students of African and Caribbean descent, the program will have a city-wide mandate whereby it is inclusive for all interested children and youth in Ottawa. In order to effectively deliver our mobile tutoring services in the Ottawa community, Jaku Konbit will be establishing strategic links, networks and partnership with the Ottawa Board of Education (English Public Schools), Ottawa Separate School Board (English Catholic Schools), the Multicultural Liaison Officer Program (MLO), professional individuals, Black student associations at the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, Algonquin College, and organizations within the African and Caribbean communities.
Applications are now being accepted from parents wishing to enroll their child(ren) for the mobile tutoring service. Please send your request for an application package to
