Jaku Programs

Youth Employment

What do you want to be when you grow up? If you do not know then we can help.

Jaku Konbit is committed to assisting Black-Canadian youth between the ages of 14 and 17 years gain valuable work experience, so that they can become better prepared for the work world in the future. Numerous studies have shown that youth job training programs make more of an impact over the long term than in the short term. The program is designed to help participants gain valuable skills that are important for success in the workplace. Youth are able to make informed choices about their future careers through self-exploration. Basically, our participants are encouraged to explore areas of strength and work on their weak spots. This activity provides youth with the chance to test their abilities. Young people need to be able to make a successful transition to the work world, thus providing early work experience and on the job training will equip them to tackle the labour force. Jaku Konbit Youth Employment Network is an important part of our participants’ career development.

Black-Canadian youth often face numerous barriers to employment. In fact, minority youth face employment rates as much as thirty percent lower than their White peers. Introducing youth to the world of work allows them to leverage the skills gained to build a strong foundation for future advancement in the workplace.

Jaku Konbit is empowered to act and provide Black-Canadian youth with access to opportunities in the workplace, creating bigger and brighter futures for our children.

JK Summer Employment Initiative 2008

For Summer 2008, Jaku Konbit has provided nine African-Canadian youth with valuable work experience via our “Greatness is Within Me” Summer Camp 2008. Our summer camp has provided these youth with the opportunity to assist with implementing and executing summer activities for registered children. Our summer employment initiative will also assist our youth participants with building their individual strengths. Our summer youth employees will be able to develop diverse competencies and skills in a positive and warm environment while earning an income. The Jaku Konbit Summer Employment Initiative aims to foster youth who are both self-confident and self-aware, traits that are necessary for success in the world of work
