Melly Akinduro
Biography
Melly Akinduro is a first-generation immigrant from Nigeria, she moved to Canada ten years ago to further her education and decided to stay in Ottawa since she loved it so much. She earned her first undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Social Work at Lakehead University. A life goal for Melly is to develop advanced skills to support racialized communities and make a difference in the world. She believes education is an avenue to accomplish this goal. As a result, she is persistently engaging in learning opportunities to become a valuable resource in her community.
Melly has over five years of experience working in social services and supporting newcomers in Canada. In addition, she volunteers as a youth mentor and provides culturally sensitive mentorship to youths between the ages of 13 and 24. She uses an anti-oppressive and strength-based framework to provide empowering support to clients.
Melly strives to deliver excellent client-centred support by incorporating her professional, academic, and life experiences into practice while maintaining curiosity and humility.
